New Advisory Group to Guide U.S. on AI Risks
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has established a new committee, the Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board, designed to offer expertise on AI-related matters. The committee, boasting notable tech figures including Jensen Huang and Sam Altman, aims to tackle issues pertaining to national security, electricity use, and manufacturing processes. Slated to hold its first meeting in May, the board will be 23-strong, drawing members from various sectors such as technology, academia, and politics.
The initiative strives to guarantee AI is utilized responsibly and safely. However, with the fast-approaching Presidential election, apprehensions loom regarding AI’s capacity to disrupt electoral processes.
